While it is possible to cut aluminum posts with a miter saw (using a non-ferrous blade), we recommend ordering the correct height. Stainless steel posts are much harder to cut on-site and should ideally be ordered to spec.

Standard tools include a drill, level, tape measure, and miter saw. For the cables, you'll need a specialized cable cutter and either a hydraulic swager or a set of wrenches for swageless fittings.
Always start from the middle cable and work your way out (up and down) in an alternating pattern. This prevents the top rail and posts from warping under uneven pressure.
You must use industrial-grade bypass cable cutters. Regular wire cutters will crush the cable and cause the ends to fray, making it impossible to insert into terminals.
Apply a small amount of WD-40 or marine-grade lubricant. For swageless fittings, ensure the internal wedges aren't tilted. Never force a terminal as it may strip the threads.
Yes. The top rail provides the necessary structural compression to resist the combined tension of the cables (which can be over 1,000 lbs). Without it, your posts will pull inward and the cables will sag.
